Hewlett-Packard (NYSE:HPQ) Corporation has announced that it has agreed to pay $16.25 million to settle allegations made in multiple whistleblower lawsuits that the technology giant defrauded the Schools and Libraries program of the Universal Service, also known as the “E-Rate Program.”

The case was filed as a qui tam action in 2005 by the Kenney & McCafferty law firm. The federal civil investigation which led to the Hewlett-Packard (NYSE:HPQ) settlement, was conducted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas.

A settlement is on the cards, as AT&T (NYSE:T) decides to pay out over data charge issues.

According to the company’s announcement, subscribers who paid for mobile internet access over several services including Blackberry data plans, iPhone data plans, other smart phone data plans, laptop connect cards and pre-paid user data services on bills issued from November 1, 2005 to September 7, 2010 might be eligible to accept benefits from a class action settlement.

The petitioner in the case had disputed that AT&T Mobility collected fees, taxes and surcharges on Internet access, violating the Internet Tax Freedom Act.

A former Apple executive has been hired by Cisco Systems (NASDAQ:CSCO) to work on future antenna projects.

Mark Papermaster, 49, will oversee the creation of chips for the company’s networking switches for innovative antenna design, which has been said to be a little problematic.

Papermaster joined Cisco on Monday and will report to John McCool, the head of the company’s data center, switching, and services group.

Cisco Systems (NASDAQ:CSCO) is the worldwide leader in “networking that transforms”.
