Facebook Places – Privacy Concerns Renewed?

Facebook Places was officially released yesterday and will see a slow rollout across America over the next coming days. The announcement was expected for quite some time, although there was some fuziness over the type of strategy that Facebook would follow. After all was said and done, Facebook didn’t do much to bring innovation to a feature that Foursquare has brought to market and succeeded for quite some time.

Facebook Places will be integrating pictures into the checking in and checking out of places and that’s about it. You will be able to be tagged, or tag friends if they are with you and everyone who’s interested in sharing what they’re doing will have the perfect tool at their disposal.

Facebook Places – Privacy Concerns Renewed?

Facebook Places is potentially a very dangerous tool because it allows people to know your exact whereabouts in real time through GPS techonology. It becomes even more dangerous when your friends can let people know your whereabouts.

For this reason Facebook has stepped up its efforts to improve privacy options and make it more easy and transparent on what kind of information will be shared.

Still – it won’t be a surprise if people don’t set the right Facebook Places privacy settings, get robbed, and all hell breaks loose.
